Day 5 = Pirrama Park, Sydney to Cairns

Tuesday, July 30, 2013

Today was a travel day for us as we prepared to leave Sydney and fly to Cairns.  Our flight wasn't until 1:30 in the afternoon, so we were able to explore a little bit more of Sydney in the morning time.  We started by getting some breakfast to-go from Cafe Vienna, including egg/cheese sandwiches, almond croissants, and banana bread.  Then we found a park that we could walk to called Pirrama Park in the Pyrmont neighborhood.  Another great find with fun climbing structures, sand pits, and water play (except we pretended the water didn't work because it was too cold that morning!).

Good morning Sydney!  Short-sleeve onesie, long-sleeve T-shirt, sweater, and thick jacket.  Brr!
Sand pit with an excavator!
First a turn for the most excited one, Ro Ro!
Then a turn for Auntie Ann Ming who wanted to give it a try!
Zaydee wants a turn too because everyone else made it look so fun.
Time to play on the rope climbing structure!
You can do it Ro Ro!
Yay!  Ro Ro loved climbing the ropes!
Zaydee loving her upside-down backbends from the ropes!
Our family photo - too irresistible for the adults!
Goodbye Pirrama Park!
After walking back to the Radisson Blu, Zaydee took a nap so she could be well-rested on the plane, and Ro stayed up so that he could end up taking a nap on the plane - both methods worked out!  During that time, the parents frantically finished packing up all our stuff to get ready for the airport.  We flew Qantas again, and the flight from Sydney to Cairns was a 3 hour flight.  Nice and short (in comparison to our 15-hour flight!).

Our view of the Cairns Esplanade from our apartment.
Upon arriving in Cairns around 4:30pm, we got our luggage, took a taxi to our place, got some take-out Thai food nearby, and it was pretty much time for the kiddos to sleep.  We found a place called Cairns Aquarius that was a 2-bedroom 2-bath apartment in a perfect location near the Cairns Esplanade.  In Sydney, we tried looking for an apartment as well, but if you want to be in the central location like Radisson Blu was, then you really have to stay at a hotel.  Fortunately, in Cairns, we found this apartment and loved having a refrigerator, laundry, and a bigger space to hang out together.

Perfect views from our balcony at Cairns Aquarius.
Ready for warmer weather now that we are not in Sydney anymore, and preparing for our diving trip the next day!  Motion sickness patch-behind-the-ear + Dramamine taken the night beforehand for best results!
